We at the West Irvine Church of Christ would
like to thank you for visiting our site and
would like to invite you to come be with us as
we worship our Heavenly Father. We are a
local Body of Christians located in Irvine, Ky,
who love the Lord and seek Bible Authority for
all that we do. If you have never submitted
your life to Christ, the Gospel plan of salvation
is very simple: The Bible teaches that we must
believe, Hebrews 11:6, without faith it is
impossible to please him, understanding that
faith is essential we find in Romans 10:17 that
our faith comes only from hearing the Word of
God. The Word of God teaches that we must
repent. Christ reveals to us in Luke 13:3,
unless we make this change we will perish.
We also must be willing to Confess Jesus
Christ as the Son of God Romans 10:10 , and be
buried with Him in Baptism Mark 16:16 ,
Romans 6:3-4.If we can assist you in obeying
or if you would like further study please don’t

BEING A GODLY EXAMPLE
DURING DIFFICULT TIMES
Acts 16:23-24 (KJV)verse 23 of Acts 16  when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailer to keep them
safely: 24 Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.

Prison in the 1st century was not what we may consider prison today. As terrifying as the thought of a modern day prison may be and rightfully so
it is of no comparison to the horrific conditions that prison was in the 1st century it was prison. Modern day prisons provide food for the prisoner
and they provide  medicine if needed  they provide a sleeping arrangement, not the best of any but none the less provisions are made, the
prisons the Apostle Paul occupied in these times were in no way this luxurious. Prison Conditions:  One prison unearthed in the city of Tiberius
found that    each cell measures 1.8 by 2.7 meters, and is 2.07 meters high. Its walls were extremely thick, with the outer wall (1.1 meters thick)
containing two narrow openings onto the city square. The slits presumably provided ventilation, and one also served as a food portal. Narrow
benches run along the length of the cells uncovered.  Said of another ancient Roman prison its appearance is disgusting and vile by reason of
filth, the darkness and stench. Most prisoners wore chains; their feet might be shackled, their hands manacled or even attached to their neck by
another chain, and their movements further restricted by a chain fastened to a post. Some prisoners were also kept in wooden stocks, devices to
restrain the feet, hands, or even the neck of an individual .Prisons often were very dark the inner area of the prison mentioned in Acts 16:24 was
probably without windows. Prisons often had poor air circulation, a lack of hygienic facilities, and food of poor quality.
Paul and Silas badly beaten to where they could barely stand no doubt bloody and bruised are thrown into a prison similar to one as we have just
described. What is there reaction?  After being severely beaten and thrown into a vile dark prison bound in stocks, even in this instance they
didn't give people any opportunity to find fault with how they serve. Instead, there lives demonstrated that they were God's servants and what a
powerful message it was that was spoken Acts 16:25 (KJV) at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners
heard them.  They sang and they prayed.  It’s hard to even try to begin to describe what this says to us.  When we think of the physical condition
they were in and condition of the prison they were in how could it be possible that this is there reaction, except they had a deep understanding of
what it meant to look at this life through the eyes of spirituality.
Notice the result of the decision Acts 16:26-34 (KJV) 26 and suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were
shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed. 27 And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his
sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled. 28
but Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, do thyself no harm: for we are all here. 29 Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling,
and fell down before Paul and Silas, 30 and brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? 31 And they said, Believe on the Lord
Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. 32 And they spoke unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house. 33
And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway. Their decision to conduct
themselves in a manner where the Gospel would not be hindered   not only did not hinder it but it preached a powerful sermon, it resulted in a
man desiring to know what it was he must do to obtain salvation, it resulted in that man being told what he must do to obtain that salvation from
the Word of God, and ultimately resulted in that man and most likely many of his household being baptized into Jesus Christ. We don’t have to
speculate that this had a positive effect we know by the salvation obtain by this jailer when he went into the watery grave of baptism.  Despite how
dire the circumstances in our life may be we must remember our action can and do have a profound effect on the Gospel. Whether positive or
negative is our decision.

The Eternal Nature and Deity
of Jesus Christ “The Word

John 1:1 - 3 reads 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with
God. All things were made by Him and without Him was not anything made that was made.  As John begins the writing of His Gospel, he
immediately attaches some very important truths to our Lord and Savior. These truths speak to the eternal nature and sovereignty of Christ.
John identifies Jesus as being present during the creation, but not only being present but likewise being intently involved concerning the
creation process.  As we go back to the book of Genesis and relive the creation account in chapter 1 the phrases God Created, God Said, God
Saw, God Divided, God Called, God Made, God Set, and God Blessed is used a combined 29 times. In each of these instance we see the
magnificent creative power of The Son of God as He along with the Father and Spirit 1st handedly spoke this world into existence.  The eternal
nature of Christ is and undisputable fact. He speaks of Himself in Revelation 1: 8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith
the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. This parallels very well with what John writes concerning Christ in John
chapter 1 verses 1-3.

Notice also what the Hebrew  writer, records Heb 1:8-10 (KJV) 8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a scepter of
righteousness is the scepter of thy kingdom. 9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed
thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. 10 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are
the works of thine hands: Very similar to John the Hebrew writer establishes these same attributes of Christ.  Identifying Christ as possessing a
throne speaks to His right to command. He is referred to as God, which again speaks of His deity and divine status. This right to command is one
of and eternal nature. The Hebrew writer says thy throne is for ever and ever. The scepter spoken of express a royal authority. This authority is
one of righteousness which defines His Kingdom. He is spoken of as one who loves truth and hates falsehood, one anointed with oil of gladness
and once again identified as creator in verse 10.
Col 1:17 (KJV)17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. Not only did He create all things ,but it is by Him that all things consist
and have their being. The continued existence and survival of the creation is solely dependant upon it’s creator, the eternal preeminent one
Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is truly the Son of God and His deity and eternal nature is never to be doubted.  Let us always look unto the one who
brought us into existence and ultimately brought us  salvation.

 Overcoming Temptation Starts Inside

Temptation is defined as, to cause desire or craving in someone. To entice or be enticed. When we begin talk about temptation this is
something that each one us must face throughout our life. When Christ is praying in the garden of Gethsemane  in Matthew 26:41 shortly before
He would be led away to be crucified  He says, “Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is
weak.” The physical aspect of humanity is without strength in and of it’s self. It requires a strong resolve and a diligent effort to control. Our spirit
is many times willing and ready to be obedient yet when faced with the temptations and cravings of this life many times we heed to those fleshly
desires.  Knowing that the flesh is weak, we counter act this weakness by building up our inner man Mark says in Mark 7:21-23 21 For from
within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, 22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit,
lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: 23 All these evil things come from within, and defile the man. Identifying that the flesh
is indeed weak and understanding it all begins with our thought process, to overcome temptation we must saturate our minds and hearts with the
pure Word of God. When we allow these things to consume our lives and we allow God to speak to us through His Word we arm and prepare
ourselves to deal with the temptations we encounter in this life. Prov 2:10-12 10 When wisdom entereth into thine heart and knowledge is
pleasant unto thy soul; 11 Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee: 12 To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from
the man that speaketh forward things;
To control our outward desires we must 1st purify our hearts and we cleanse our minds. Let us pray daily as the Psalmist in Psalm 51:10  Create
in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me and upon making this appeal to God let us with all diligence strive to overcome
temptation.

HOPE IN THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT

In Ephesians Chapter 6.  Verse 17 We find the sword of the spirit spoken of. A sword in the literal sense is defined as a weapon consisting of a
long steel blade and a hilt used for thrusting and cutting, the emblem of justice and authority. In a war without a weapon, with out this object of
attack it would be impossible to be on the offensive, we could not fight back. We would eventually perish. The sword described here is the sword
of the spirit, which is the Word of God. . It to is the emblem of justice and authority. It is our offensive weapon in this spiritual warfare. Satan will
do everything he can to under mind our confidence in this sword. The Church must defend the inspired scriptures against those who pervert the
Word of God and try to diminish its authenticity.  This physical sword was used for thrusting and cutting and so does the word of God. Hebrews 4:
12-13. God’s Word describes God’s Character, it is living, it is active, piercing and discerning, and it is razor sharp, it brings to life those who
submit to it in faith and brings judgment on those who ignore it. The Word of God penetrates precisely our inner man and discerns and divides
our soul and spirit, our emotions, our thoughts and desires. It awakens and strengthens our spirit. By our willingness to submit, our hearts are
softened and made pure. It is what our Savior used as He was tempted in the wilderness and when we to draw this offensive weapon Satan will
run and he will flee. The truth is essential, righteousness is vital, a rock solid foundation is indispensable, a hope of salvation is crucial, and
equipping ourselves with God’s Word is critical. In addition to be successful in our battle and in our journey to get to Heaven we must believe
that it is attainable. The word reveals this to us. Hope is the counter active to Satan who tempts us to put our hope in things of this world and to
doubt this sword of the spirit. Without the hope of Salvation being backed and defended with the sword of truth the spiritual warfare is a vain
cause. There is no cause. But the cause we fight for is the cause of Christ, and we do so because what he accomplished in his death gives us a
hope we can not find in anything else. Paul says in 1st Timothy 1; 1 this hope we have is our Lord Jesus Christ. Christ living in us is our
assurance of eternal life.  Trust in God and defend the hope you believe in with the sword He has equipped you with.
